How Search Engines Rank Pages
Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN, analyze four main factors when determining website rankings:
- Location of keywords on a page, such as in the title tag and at the top of the page
- Frequency of keywords on a page
- The number of high-ranking sites that link to your site
- The number of click-throughs to your site from the search engine
These are called “natural” or “organic” rankings, as opposed to paid placement. The first two factors we can influence by optimizing your website pages, adding keywords, re-writing your top headings and paragraphs, and submitting your site to the major search engines.
In addition to natural rankings, you can pay the search engines to place your website on the top or side of the search engine results pages. You are charged each time someone clicks on your link. The cost varies depending on the search engine and the keywords you choose.
We can set up your account with each search engine, create the ads and landing pages (where the person goes on your site when they click on the ad), and select the keywords and geographic areas. Each month, we can also review the number of impressions and clicks each ad has received and modify the keywords and ad text as needed. We will send you a monthly report with this information.
